AHWS Longitudinal Study Final Report
The Phase 3 study was approved by the Joint Management Committee on
March 25, 2009. The report contains details on the evolution of the
study and the current findings. Many thanks to all AHWS clients, Elders,
Key Informants and longitudinal study sites that participated.
The Ministry of Health Promotion’s new Healthy Communities approach is part of an evolving process that will position Ontario as a leader in health promotion. The Ontario government is committed to implementing a holistic and integrated approach that will work to improve the health of Ontarians.
This new approach, “Healthy Communities Ontario” encourages the development of new partnerships and strengthens existing ones, resulting in improved access to priority health promotion programs and services for Ontarians.
This new approach will be mobilized by the Healthy Communities Fund, which will support provincial and community organizations to plan and deliver integrated initiatives that address multiple risk factors and promote health and wellness, at all levels, across the province.

Irvin George is selected as new Manager for the AHWS Secretariat.
After an extensive recruitment process to permanently fill the position of Manager with the Aboriginal Healing and Wellness Strategy (AHWS) Secretariat, the Co-Chairs of Joint Management Committee announced that Irvin George had accepted this position. He officially assumed his duties on Monday, October 22, 2007.

Wallace (Wally) McKay appointed as the new Aboriginal Co-Chair by the AHWS Aboriginal Caucus. Wally McKay is a member of Sachigo Lake First Nation and resides in Sioux Lookout. He has served in a number of leadership positions, most notably as Grand Chief of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation, and the Ontario Regional Chief and Vice-Chief, Assembly of First Nations.
