Cultural Teachings

The AHBHC Program respects and encourages Aboriginal approaches to services. Traditional Teachings appropriate to each community’s cultural heritage or preferences are included in the programs and services delivered.

The AHBHC Program does this by:
  • Encouraging a sense of belonging for program participants (youth, parents/extended family) by involving them in decision-making processes and creating an atmosphere, which is non-judgmental, open, friendly and available to participants.
  • Including Elders and Traditional people in all programming areas, including workshops, support circles, play groups, etc.
  • Use or encourage the use of Aboriginal languages during all programming sessions and, whenever possible, in the home.
